Steve To Step Down?

If you believe the prediction of Uneasysilence, then yes this is what will happen on Tuesday’s MacWorld. According to this post at Uneasysilence, the “There’s Something in the Air” slogan of Apple’s marketing banners signal a change in Apple. It’s not hardware or software related but it’s the leadership. Steve will announce to the world his plans of stepping down. Similar to what Bill Gates did at CES.

In my opinion this is one of the most unlikely things that will happen come MacWorld. While technically it is possible, it’s highly unlikely.

The only reason I think that will prompt Steve to step down is his failing health. Even with that I think Steve will be working as long as he can physically tolerate it. I mean, sure he’s a bit slimmer than the past years, but he doesn’t look that sickly to me. He still seems to have that bounce in his step.

I also don’t think it’s the right time nor is it the right venue to announce something like this. MacWorld is about bringing good things to the Mac community not bad. I also think the stock will take such a beating if it was done this way.

I think Steve will be grooming a successor, introduce him to the world little by little, allow the Mac community to get accustomed to it first before making the announcement. That should cushion the blow. Steve has always tried to do things to improve Apple’s value and not destroy it. By announcing his retirement at MacWorld he will effectively destroy what he worked for the past 10 years.

So will Steve step down? I don’t think so. At least not anytime soon.
