Still With The Plastic Faces

So I was looking at screenshots of FIFA 08, because deep down, I’m British and have a thing for right proper footie. I also, somewhat shamefully, will admit to finding Sir Becks pretty easy on the eyes.

The facial rendering on some of the shots is spot on, and Mr. LA Galaxy is tearing up the pitch as though he was right in front of me. In others, he looks like the next addition to Barbie’s glut of man-toys.

While EA seems to have spent an inordinate amount of time getting the quirk of Beckham’s eyebrow juuuuust right, his fellow players look like they’ve walked straight out of a sex shop as male blow-up dolls with enormous…quads (perverts, what did you think I was going to say?).

In scrolling through the screenshots at ComputerAndVideoGames.com, it also becomes apparent that all footballers, regardless of fitness level, body type, or team, have identical leg musculature. Amazing. I’d love to get ahold of their trainer.

Don’t get me wrong, the graphics are impressive in their own right, but there are still some things, despite the trumpeting of our high tech software, that we still can’t get right.
