Success should not be taken for granted

There comes a time for many people when they believe that success is something that will automatically come to them. They have “earned” success, so they can stop working. It’s no longer their job to get what they want, the stuff they want is now supposed to come to them.

Thus is the case with LenDale White

It’s not uncommon for some of these good players to have big egos. It’s expected, really. It’s also not uncommon for some of the players with big egos to think that they have it made, and that they can forget about the work. Their so talented, the teams must draft them high, and they must pay them big bucks.

Unfortunately, these are the same types of players that are draft busts and/or slide below where they should.

Maurice Clarett is a good example. He thought he no longer needed to prove anything. So he challenged the giant that is the National Football League.

He lost. His stock plummeted, and he ended up being grabbed in the third round, only to be released because he didn’t take things seriously in training camp.

Nice one.

LenDale: Take some advice. You aren’t as good as you think you are. The scouts’ eyes aren’t glazed over just being around you. There are hundreds of players in the country that have just as much talent as you do. You do, however, have a unique chance. You played well in one of the top football programs ever. You can be a top 10 draft pick just by going after it. But you have to try. Nothing is given to you. Some people take what they have for granted. Others take it for granted that they have nothing, and work to get more. It’s the latter group that succeeds, and the former that slides in the draft, and gets released before training camp.

It’s all your choice
