Summer time – otherwise known as “beers and patio” time…

What’s the best part of summer? Well, in Toronto a big perk is when the patios open up, pitchers of beer start appearing and everyone is laughing and having a great time…outside. That’s right – it’s time to gather up your friends, all chip in for the mega size pitcher and have some laughs. Some things to keep in mind…
The best pitchers may not be accompanied by the best food. Don’t walk in with high expectations for everything. There are the few places that will exceed your expectations on both fronts, but if you go somewhere with the intent to grab a couple of cold ones with friends, you shouldn’t let some sub-par nachos or garlic bread get in the way of enjoying the night.
Venture outside your comfort zone. Did you go there all winter? Does everyone know
your name? If you answered yes, you need to walk a little further down the street and do some exploring. Or if you’re not in a city where walking is a particularly fun option, drive a couple more miles/kilometers. Give a new place a try – something that would fall happily in the zone of ‘pub’ is generally a good bet for an enjoyable summer time beer.
Make sure someone has a camera. These are the times that you’re going to want to remember on when the cold hard reality of winter sets in. Savor the moment…but don’t forget to capture a few of them to enjoy later.

The Five Point on Main and 15th Avenue is great for shared pitchers. We should do a Tweetup there!
That’s a great idea, Raul! Hmmm…July would be a great time for that, post long weekend…
Any place that can keep the beer glasses that frosty during the summer months gets my vote!
Hah! True enough, Mary Jo – I wasn’t kidding about the nachos being sub-par (blech…) but there were other aspects of the night that certainly compensated. ;-)
