Super Mario War – What is it good for?

Do you fancy kicking ass and taking names in a Mushroom Kingdom setting? 72dpi Army has it covered with their homebrew gem Super Mario War.

Gameplay is instantly familiar with as many as four players controlling a Mario, with the aim of getting all 1985 on the other players’ collective ass. Several different game modes are available ranging from simple deathmatch (complete with Unreal Tournament announcer) through to Domination and beyond.

It’s a great game with functionality for creating your own maps and even whole skins! It’s even gained its very own fan site at www.supermariowar.com such is the extent of its popularity.

I’m not sure how Nintendo feel about the game, and it’s not something I’ve seen 72dpi Army comment on, but it’s been available for a while now so it doesn’t look like there’s too much danger of it disappearing. Even so you should download it right away for the plain and simple fact that it’s awesome.

My only problem is that it’s almost impossible to play with four people on one keyboard. There’s the space concern and also the fact that computers can only handle so many keys being pressed at once. Other than that it’s a solid, stable game and is certainly worth it for the asking price, which is of course nothing. I’d like an online play mode, but now I’m just being greedy.

Get your download on and take a notepad. There’s a whole bunch of names waiting to be taken.
