Surprise, Greg Robinson: You’re Fired

In a move that surprises NO ONE, Syracuse has announced today that head coach Greg Robinson is out. They’ll let him finish off the final two games of the season, but even if the Orange win both of their games, his record at best will be 11-35 in four seasons. Currently, he’s 3-23 in Big East games. 01 November 2008: Syracuse Orange head football coach Greg Robinson reacts to an unfavorable call at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY. Syracuse defeated Louisville 28 - 21.

And they’re paying this guy $1.1 million per season. Come on, for that amount of money, I think I could get 3 Big East wins in four seasons!

Prior to hiring Robinson, Syracuse wasn’t the laughingstock of the conference. While they did better this year in keeping games close, they’re still 2-8. Last year, they went 2-10. Before him, the head coach was Paul Pasqualoni, who’s overall record was 107-59-1 in 14 seasons, with 9 bowl appearances. That wasn’t good enough for new AD Daryl Gross, who fired him after a luke-warm 6-6 season.

He wanted to give Robinson a chance…but his time is up. This season, it wasn’t just about losing games. The whole football program is falling apart, with few recruits choosing the school and over thousands of seats empty at home games.

So add the Syracuse position to the list of schools with head coach openings. While this one may not be as coveted as the Tennessee or Clemson spots, it would be a great place for a first-time coach to start rebuilding a program.
