Suzuki In The House?…!

Well I will not be the first one to try out the new 2008 4-Stroke v-6 Suzuki 250SS. While I cannot say that Suzuki has now produced or ever produced a un-reliable product, I am unwilling to be the first to spend my money and find out. That and I am currently not in the market for a new outboard. My initial thoughts though is that if this things runs as mean as it looks than we may see these things pop up on bass boats around our towns.
Suzuki’s new 4-stroke 250SS V-6 has been designed to market to the freshwater fishing industry and challenge the preffered 2-strokes. While Suzuki has already been successful in the saltwater industry, this could possibly be the first to really challenge the strong market already represented by other manufactures. There have already been many positive reviews published on the new engine.
With a new 20 inch shaft, 4.0 Liter big block engine, and a 3 star emission rating; Suzuki claims that this motor delivers 250 horsepower and outstanding acceleration throughout the entire powerband. The motor also has superior fuel economy, quiet, low vibration, and environmentally friendly operation.
Some general comparisons between 2 and 4-strokes are the differences in reliability and maintenance, fuel consumption and emissions, and weight. While 4-strokes tend to be heavier and cost more to maintain because of additional parts and hoses 2-strokes lack, they are presumed to be more reliable and have lower emissions. Still many serious bass boat owners prefer to rig up with 2-strokes in favor of less weight, quicker whole-shot, and better performance. Many manufacturers have released 4-strokes expecting to change the market majority into that world. The supercharged Mercury Verado has come closest, but still far from a dent. We will see if Suzuki is up to the challenge.
