Swedish Wrestler to Bronze Medal: FOAD

Maybe it’s just us, but if we dedicated years of sacrifice and hard work to a sport with the goal of reaching the Olympics, we’d be pretty happy to stroll to the medal stand.
Sure, a gold medal would be the ultimate goal. But in the grand scheme of things, we’d accept a silver or bronze.
Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian? Not so much. His reaction to getting a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics included taking it off during the medal ceremony, walking off the podium, tossing the medal on the wrestling mat, and proclaiming that he’s quitting the sport.
He didn’t mention anything about enrolling in an anger management program, but we’d venture to guess the other two medalists suffering through a “this sux” moment would endorse it.
Did anyone else just get a shiver down their spine wondering *gulp* what Abrahamian would have done if he didn’t any medal at all?
Note: FOAD=F*** Off And Die

LOL!
Maybe it’s just me, but if I’d dedicated years of sacrifice and hard work to a sport with the goal of reaching the Olympics, and then get arse f*cked by the referee, the federation, and other so-called “officials”, because they had decided amongst themselves to let a sub-standard Italian (best position in similar circumstances before? 16th..) win, I’m pretty certain that bronze medal wouldn’t be worth the strap it’s hanging on….
I also wouldn’t wanna be active in a sport where nothing is decided on performance, but on relations with the “ruling class”. Sounds Italian in some way to me though.. Or East European.. Oh wait! That happens to be the people who hold key positions in this “federation”! Pure coincidence I mentioned those, of course..
It’s on its way to arbitration court now, we’ll just see about who’s been doing things wrong in this case…
Regardless of whether Ara was justified in his actions, I’ve never seen Swedes get so fired up before. Having lived there for a year I’ve noticed a few things about the Swedes: They show little emotion. They keep their feelings to themselves. And they generally avoid controversy. All that went out the window with Ara’s protest. I’m glad to see them cut loose. Although if this would have been a natural born Swede (Ara is originally Armenian and didn’t get his Swedish citizenship until his 20s), I doubt we would have seen that fire.
…and the verdict is… GUILTY! Now, Jodie, where’s your acid blog-comments on the fact that the CAS has given its judgement on the event, stating that the FILA was wrong in not allowing Ara and his team to properly protest? That the circumstances around this does not honour the commitment by Fila to work towards the olympic spirit (and all that blabla)?
But, no, the man is still childish.. :-|
Are you kidding me? I love getting this many comments! I wouldn’t change a word of my post. Come on, the descriptionwas pretty funny. Think of all those people who never came across FOAD before. Their slang is that much better, all because of Ara.
