Sweet 16 – Day 1 notes

If today’s games are any indication of how the rest of this year’s NCAA tournament are going to be, we’re in for a wild ride.
Here are my thoughts after the first 4 games of the round of 16:
- The other 15 teams left in the tournament should be scared – very scared, actually – of North Carolina. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I believe it is going to take a very special team playing a very special game to defeat the Tar Heels, who are absolutely rolling right now.
- What is it with teams not being able to put their opponents away? Xavier blew an 18 point lead before finally putting away West Virginia in OT. Same for UCLA – they had Western Kentucky down and out and let them back in the game in the second half. When you get a team down, you need to put them away. No mercy. That is precisely what North Carolina is doing.
- Again, as I mentioned in an earlier post, Louisville might be the second hottest team in the tournament right now. They absolutely thumped a very good Tennessee team and made it look easy. Do not underestimate the Cardinals.
