Practice, Practice Your Personal Finances

One thing that always amazed me when I played sports (swimming and tennis) was how practice and taking care of myself helped a lot. I could feel the difference if I didn’t eat right the day before a swim meet, or if I had neglected to exercise in the days prior to a tennis match.

The same concept holds true in personal finance as well. You need to practice good finance habits (paying off credit cards ASAP, avoiding a great deal of debt, disciplined saving and investing) as well as take care of your financial health regularly.

The same discipline that had me up at 6 am swimming everyday is the same discipline that demands I set money aside for savings, even if it means that I can’t buy that great new box set of classics that I want.

And I learned a valuable lesson from tennis as well. I fractured my ankle when I showed up for a practice in inappropriate shoes. It taught me that no matter what you are doing in life, even if it’s taking care of your personal finances, you should be prepared with the right equipment.
