Taking Security Seriously

I wrote an entry awhile back regarding a guide posted on Ars Technica on how to keep your Mac secure. Well there’s another interesting article on Ars. It’s about five important security apps for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

My interest and yours too should be on the Mac apps. Ars lists 5 apps that is essential for keeping your Mac safe. These are System Preferences, Open Firmware Utility, ClamAV, Little Snitch and WaterRoof. I must admit that since I haven’t taken security as seriously as I should, so now it’s time to take steps to correct that.

I’m particularly interested in ClamAV. I know that some Mac users, present company included have been saying that Mac users don’t really need anti-virus software. While it’s true the Mac isn’t as vulnerable to viruses as Windows but that’s not to say it won’t get worse in the future but more than that I think we should just really start practicing safe computing. Meaning even if our systems won’t get affected let’s do our best not to pass on the bad things to others. In that line I’m going to take a better look at ClamAV and see if I can use that.
