Tell me. In your site, what sites do you link to? Of course, you would be sending link backs to those sites which you find to be really helpful or really interesting. You surely would not link to a site just because.

Now, with regards to SEO, it is important to keep in mind that the more links you have, the more you are telling a search engine that you have content that is worth looking into. However, if all the links that are sent to your site are directed to your home page, this tells the search engines something different. See, that means that other sites may just be referring to site. BUT the content is rather shallow. See, if you really had really deep content, other sites would be deep linking to pages within your site. See the difference there?
