Debit cards have been around a long, long time in the US. I don't see how they are still gaining ground here as almost everyone I know uses them instead of cash....yeah this was kind of off topic, but have to stick up for my US debit card users. ;-)

Believe it or not, capital ($) can have different value at different stages of the company: If your startup has HIGH startup costs VS a lower startup cost, it is to your advantage to spend as little as possible in the beginning rather than latter (due to reduced risks involved as you see the progress of your venture even if you end up spending the same amount at the end!). Thus, I believe firmly that Canada offers its startups less startup costs (through NRC-IRAP, SRED, mandatory Health Care, etc.) compared to the US where the startup costs can be high in the beginning stages of the company offset by cheaper income tax later.
Moral of the story? It's better to stay cheap in the beginning for your venture, and Canada is IT!;-)
