Technorati Research: Where has Blogging Gotten You?

This is the second post in the series discussing the Technorati research on the state of the blogosphere 2008.  The first post was on the characteristics of bloggers.  Today’s topic is on the motivation of bloggers.

  • most bloggers write about multiple topics (personal and professional are equally popular)
  • half of bloggers describe their style as sincere, conversational, humourous and expert
  • tell-all, gossiping, snarky and confessional were at the bottom of the self-descriptions
  • most give their real identity on their blog
  • most recognize the positive impact that blogging has had on their lives
  • more than 50% are now better known in their industry
  • 20% have been on TV or radio because of their blog
  • many have gotten opportunities that they wouldn’t have gotten in a pre-blog era

How does your blogging experience compare with these findings? Has blogging increased your visibility? given you an opportunity with traditional media? given you professional and personal opportunities?

Everything that you suggest tallies with my experience. However, I would also add that blogging has extended my professional network and allowed me to participate in my industry more fully (ie not just an observer).

    Hi Gavin,

Great point – blogs are a great way to meet people and get them to know you!
