Tedy Bruschi Retired from the Patriots

Tedy Bruschi is calling it a career. The New England Patriots linebacker announced his intentions on Monday. It brings an end to a 13-year NFL career — with all games played with the Patriots.

Although he has played less and less in recent years, this announcement was somewhat surprising. The Patriots will now need to rely on their young linebacking corps to fill in the gaps. However, New England won’t be able to replace Bruschi’s leadership, passion and inspirational presence on the football field.

In one of the most amazing stories in recent history, Bruschi was able to return to the NFL after suffering a stroke. In fact, he missed less than a full season after suffering the stroke in 2007.

Said Bruschi in his press conference: “The thought of playing professional football after experiencing a stroke. I mean, is that a statement you hear everyday? It’s not.”

While with the Patriots, Bruschi was able to win three Super Bowl championships and become of the most beloved players in the history of the franchise.
