A U.S. court has found 17-year-old Daniel Petric guilty. The teen shot and killed his mother and wounded his father after they’d taken away his copy of Halo 3 and locked it away.
Despite the defense’s attempts to plead insanity (caused by too many Halo games), the judge found the kid guilty of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder.
On the night of the shooting in October 2007, Petric broke into his father’s safe to retrieve Halo 3 and also took his dad’s 9mm automatic. Then, according to his father, he came into the room while hiding the gun, and said:
“Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you.”
His father recalled that they did and had expected a pleasant surprise before, as he said, his head went numb from the gunshot.
Petric now faces potential life in prison – without parole.
