Teen Sentenced to 23 years in Prison for Killing Mother Over Halo 3

Back in 2007, Daniel Petric shot and kill his mother and simultaneously injured his father after the parents took away his Halo 3. It’s been a long two years and a long trial, but the ruling came through today, sentencing Petric to 23 years in prison. The sentence might have been worse – life without parole – but leniency seems to have been given on the basis of age and also the defense’s argument that the boy was addicted to the video game.

The father cried for mercy when the ruling came in, saying that the boy “still does not understand why he did something so terrible.” Twenty-three years to come to terms with what he’s done is probably going to feel like a very long time.
