Thanks to both of you for your comments. My phone is running Windows Mobile v5 with no option to upgrade to the latest version. Actually one of the only reasons I'd be interested in ditching my phone and upgrading to the latest version, more for the features of the OS than the features of the hardware.

Windows Mobile Automatic Mode will switch between the Normal profile and the Vibrate Profile. However, you can edit the profile to make it be something else if you want. So I can set the ringer for the Vibrate profile to silent and Automatic mode will now switch between a silent vibrate and normal. Just remember that vibrate doesn't mean vibrate anymore.

Back in 2001 or 2002 I had a Nextel Motorola phone that allowed me to create profiles and switch to profiles based on time. Among other features, I could limit calling to a select group during a particular time. With this mode turned on, there were 3 people who could call me when I was in a meeting, everyone else went straight to voicemail. This is the one feature I miss from those days.

I thought I had an answer... but I don't.
I *think* I had a phone once that the ring-tone was associated to the profile... so you could sacrifice one of the profiles... However its not the current phone I have, and I'm guessing its not your phone either.

Since my WinMo phone changes to the "Vibrate" profile automatically when I have something in my calendar, here are some feature requests.
1) Ringtones associated to the profile
2) allowing as many profiles as you want to create
3) in the calendar appointment choosing which profile to switch to (of course it can default to something, but you can over-ride it)
