Tennesse Charges for Football Tickets

Is it ironic that this news story is about money and the Volunteers? No? Just checking.
Anyway, Tennessee has announced that students will no long be admitted free to their football games. From now on, students have to purchase tickets for $15 each or $90 for the entire season. Since the 14,000 student seats are expected to sell out, that means an addition $1.6 million for the athletic department this year.
Tennessee was in the minority – most schools charge for their tickets. This brings around an interesting question: Is it right to charge students to see their football teams play?
The school’s reasoning was that the football program didn’t get a cut from the student activities fee that student must pay as part of their tuition. Had they gotten a cut, the tickets would have continued to be free.
But really…a $1.6 million cut? Hmmm. If that was the reasoning behind the ticket prices, shouldn’t students be charged like, maybe $1 or something?
Just an interested thought.
As a Penn State fan, I didn’t even realize that some school didn’t charge for their student tickets. I’m happy to pay the $20 or whatever because I know that it goes into uniforms, building the stadium, etc. However, I have a feeling that some Tennessee fans will be pretty mad.
How do you feel about the new ticket prices for students at Tennessee?

The Universty of Tennesse is in the procces of renovating multiple facilities. Tennesse officials have pledged that they will make every effort to avoid adding an extra charge to tuition prices with this thought in mind fans have seen the renovations reflected in ticket prices, anyways who would want to throw away 1.6 million dollars?
