Tennis Sweeps Tops Athlete Awards

The sport of tennis stood up and forced the world to recognize it at the Laureus world sports awards event in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Roger Federer won his fourth straight world sportsman of the year trophy, and Justine Henin was named world sportswoman of the year for the first time.

Henin equalled a 10-year-old record when she won 10 titles last season, including the French and U.S. Open. The feat hadn’t been accomplished since Martina Hingis.

And Federer – we all know what he did…he dominated the sport of tennis last season including his history-tying fifth consecutive Wimbledon title to match Bjorn Borg.

Granted, Federer has been in this place before but stated that he “was glad the judges didn’t think three was enough.”

And good for Henin. Split with your husband and a year later, pick up the sportswoman of the year award!
