Testing Lulu.com

book.jpgI’ve been intrigued with Lulu.com for quite awhile. The offer a way to get into self-publishing at no cost at all.

Since I developed a new ebook, called Through The Labyrinth of Writing You Book to give away from Writing With Vision, I decided to upload it to Lulu and convert it into a small paper back book people could also buy if they wanted. Mostly I wanted to go through the process.

The first challenge was a cover for the paperback version. A labyrinth has become the visual image for the site. You can imagine I was delighted to find a labyrinth in Lulu’s cover gallery – a whole, ever changing selection of covers available to use at no cost. It took some fiddling, but it works. I decided on wire binding partly because the book is so small. Saddle stitching might have worked as well.

Uploading the manuscript is a cinch.

Once it was all uploaded, I took Lulu’s advice and ordered a copy before I released on the public. It arrived today, and you know what? I’m delighted.

Like all self-publishing products, the success of this one depends entirely on my marketing efforts, but Lulu does help with things like press releases and makes ancillary material available at a reasonable cost. But if you’re willing to learn how to market your book, and follow through, Lulu is a good option.

And if you’d like to buy a copy the link is: http://www.lulu.com/content/814897 – the price is $9.68

Write well and often,
