The Alex Legion– Kobe comparison

June 21, 2008 by Ryan Pravato

Apparently at least one Big Ten basketball coach doesn’t quite understand the nature of the internet, or he just doesn’t care.

At a Fighting Illini Comedy Tour Fighting Illini Meet and Greet Tour held in Peoria, Illinois on Thursday night, men’s basketball coach Bruce Weber had this opinion to offer on the upcoming Big Ten men’s basketball season, “The league should be wide open and we can be right in the middle of it. I do know one thing, though. I think Indiana will suck. Don’t put that on the Internet.”

Don’t worry Coach Weber, said statement will never, ever appear on the internet.

IU blog Cannot Falter thought Weber’s comments were “odd” and “bizarre”. I’m wondering why they didn’t just say Weber’s comments were a lame attempt at getting a few laughs. Everyone knows Indiana will not be a good team for a couple of years, it doesn’t take a great coach to figure that one out Bruce.

InsidetheHall was a little more fiesty with its reaction. They mentioned that Weber is still feeling bad for himself over Eric Gordon’s decision to decommit from Illinois two years ago.

At any rate…

If new Indiana Coach Tom Crean didn’t already have enough material to motivate his players with, he certainly has some extra good stuff to throw his player’s way when his Hoosiers meet up with the Illini this year.

Maybe Coach Weber should start a school wide comedy tour and try to jab at other teams in the Big Ten? I mean, coming from a coach that led last year’s team to a 16-19 record, he sure the heck as a lot respectability beaming from his figure. Certainly the pinnacle of basketball success is a 16-19 record. Now if he had just lost one more game, then all bets would have been off. But as long as you keep that L column total under 20, you’re free to spout off about anything.

But Weber might have an uncanny knack at comedy, akin to his uncanny ability to recruit players who cannot score, because what else is funnier than comparing a dysfunctional shot chucker transfer from Kentucky to arguably the most complete basketball player on the planet, “The players have nicknamed him (Alex Legion) ‘Kobe.’ He has a ways to go, but I understand the comparison. He can score, but he doesn’t guard anybody and we just had to teach him a new word. Pass. When he gets his first assist, everybody should give him a standing ovation because that will be his first one.“

So the Alex Legion—Kobe comparisons have begun. Weber won’t have to worry about this statement gaining much support, something tells me that it’s the first and last of its kind.

As always any questions, comments, Wal-Mart references and beefs are appreciated.

poor poor little Indiana University. After a decade of sub par performances in desperation they hired a known cheater to try and bring the IU program out of the dumpster.

When the cheater started behaving like a cheater, the IU fans all cheered. After cheating to get a young man to break his word with a conference rival all the IU fans cheered. They finally got a decent recruit, and so they ran out and tried to rub it their conference opponent’s face.

Well KARMA decided that enough was enough, and held IU up above her head and did a full body slam on IU. IU fans still cheered their cheating coach even after he had been caught being the completely classless bunch that they are.

Even though IU fans finally realized what the rest of the world already knew (Sampson was a cheater), they offered no apology, and started acting in even more classless hillbilly ways. So KARMA, she ripped away almost every single player from the IU squad.

And the opposing coach who was wronged and called a racist by Sampson and his assistants (to recruits), still did not receive a single apology from the IU administration, team, or fans. At an all ILLINOIS function the opposing coach makes an off the cuff remark to get a laugh out of the Illinois fans, and suddenly the IU fans are brought to tears of how they were wronged. Page after Page of temper tantrums were posted by IU fans on IU boards about the opposing coaches’ comment.

The opposing coach and team paid no attention, and laughed heartily after pummeling IU in both basketball and football for the next two years. After 2 years IU fires their new found savior because the fanbase who threw ethics into the wind for Sampson, want to hire another snake. That snake also gets caught and IU gets the death penalty, and the order is restored in college basketball, and everyone except IU hillbillies live happily ever after

    - Pummeling IU in both basketball and football the last two years, huh? So you think going 1-1 in football and losing 3 of 5 basketball games to us is a pummeling? I guess we just have a higher standard of winning than U of I

What a waste of my time reading your horrible post.

Little Indiana University? This post is more of a joke than Bruce Weber’s dumb remarks. If you haven’t noticed, pal, Illinois holds a candle to IU on the basketball court. Football? I’ll give props to Illinois for making it to the Rose Bowl, but before last season they were just as bad as IU(Indiana won on the road) And how in the world are Illinois fans still mad about Eric Gordon? As many basketball experts have stated, “Illinois feel this is the first time in history a player has changed schools.” Plus, he’s from Indiana. I will never get that. Get….over…..it.

The candles will be burning even when IU goes through it’s tough times(it will be rough to watch) But again, how are Illinois fans(and their coach) talking smack? Look at a history book bum.

IU hillbillies? listen pal, I’m from southern Indiana and I’ve been around southern and central Illinois plenty of times. It’s the same damn people. Just because a small portion of your state is covered by Chicago doesn’t mean that the vast majority of it isn’t full of midwestern hillbillies just like the surrounding states. UI has just as many retard hillbillies cheering for their program. I’ve met plenty of them.

IU walk-ons, this is to you

  6. fred m says:

Decades? 2002-IU WAS RUNNERUP IN NCAA TOURNAMENT 2) FINAL FOUR IN 92 FINAL EIGHT IN 1993.

  7. IU is at the bottom of the Big Ten academically. You Hoosier Hillbillies can’t understand english…

—- Pummeling IU in both basketball and football the last two years, huh? So you think going 1-1 in football and losing 3 of 5 basketball games to us is a pummeling? I guess we just have a higher standard of winning than U of I —

The post was talking about the next 2 years you freakin’ idiot. How did IU do last year in the Big Ten Tournament? And who was in the finals?

IU has always been a cheating school, they just had strong ties to the NCAA so they got the nod to do whatever they wanted. Why do you think the NCAA moved it’s headquarters to hillbilly land? Sure Bobby, you can hit your players, beat your wife, and throw chairs onto the court, we won’t do anything to you. Well times are a changing, and IU is no longer the golden child. She’s the stupid little crack smokin’ ho that is the epitome of Indiana ignorance.

Have fun cookin’ up your crystal meth you toothless hillbilly idiots.

  8. fred m says:

The IU CLASS OF 2009-10 HAS TO BE RANKED IN THE TOP 3. i DON’T SEE ANY OBJECTIVE REASONING AROUND IT.

  9. fred m says:

i SAY BY 2015, IU WILL HAVE THEIR 6TH AND 7TH NCAA TITLES.
