The Awesome Durrrr Challenge

Tom Dwan, whose online moniker has earned him the nickname “durrrr“, issued a mammoth challenge recently that has had the online poker world buzzing. The challenge is as follows: The challenge is open to any poker player in the world with the stipulation that each of Dwan’s opponents has to play him for 50,000 hands at four tables at the same time. (The sessions can be broken up over time.) The games can be either no-limit hold’em or pot-limit Omaha.
At the conclusion of 50,000 hands, if Dwan is up any amount over his opponent, even one dollar, his opponent must pay him an additional $500,000. However, if Dwan is down any amount, he will pay them 3:1 on that $500,000—the tidy sum of $1.5 million.
Patrick Antonius, David Benyamine, and Phil Ivey have all accepted the challenge. Play began this past Wednesday with Antonius down $134,000.
More stuff like this needs to happen. Durrrr’s challenge is a big time shake up in the poker community and has definitely livened things up. It will be interesting to see if he can follow through on his boastful 3 to 1 bet and beat the very best the game has to offer.
You can see Dwan in live heads up action vs. Hellmuth in this video. I won’t tell you what happens, but it is a very tense hand and you can feel the pride in play as the hand plays out.
