The Biggest Mistake You Can Make

Today, I did a webinar with job seekers from Risesmart. During the question and answer session I was asked, “What is the biggest mistake a job seeker can make in an interview and what is the most important thing a job seeker can do in an interview?” Great question in my opinion.

The biggest mistake a job seeker can make in an interview, is to walk into the interview hoping to get the job, rather than coming into the interview prepared, ready to get the job. Don’t bother going to an interview if your mindset is not set on getting the job. The only goal you have is getting the job when you walk into an interview. Anything less than that, you are unsuccessful. Hoping will never get you a job, however walking into an interview focused on executing your job search strategy is absolutely the most important thing you can do when you walk into an interview.

Let me slow down and back up a bit. Hoping you get hired is a waste of time. Unless you are interviewing for entry level positions that pays minimum wage, get away from hoping they like you and take the time to develop your job search strategy.

Here are a few blog posts that will help you develop your job search strategy”

You Will Reap What Yoy Sow in Your Job Search

Do You Know Who You Are and What You Bring to the Table

The Product is You

The bottom line is that you must know who you are and what your bring to the table. You must know you better than anyone else and you must unashamedly communicate who you are when you walk into an interview. It is very important for you to communicate with confidence and your skills and abilities. Don’t make the mistake of hoping to get the next job you interview for. Big Mistake!
