The First 100 Days (redux)

A few years back, the previous writer at Slacker Manager took on a new job, and shared a really cool tool: a single page, strategic agenda for the first 100 days on the job. You can read Bren’s original First 100 Days article. If memory serves, that was one of the first articles I read on Slacker Manager, and it was right around that time I subscribed to the Slacker Manager RSS feed.
As time passed, and editors changed hands, the file was missing from Slacker Manager. What’s a guy to do when you’re missing a critical file? Aha! Send a quick note to Bren, and ask him if he still had the file.
As any good slacker would do, he saved it for just such occasions, and quickly sent it off to me. He says it was inspired by a book book called You’re In Charge—Now What?, but I have to say, the form is pure Bren.
So now, it gives me great pleasure to share the 100 Days Generic Agenda, in PDF form, with you. I hope you enjoy it, and if you have ways to improve it, post a link in the comments or contact me, and I’ll be happy to share it with the readers.
And Bren – we miss ya buddy! Thanks for sharing your creation with us! Hope you don’t mind how David and I are treating your old house. You can still come back and visit anytime you like! We’ve changed a few things (click in if you haven’t for a while to see our new theme, new sidebar, and new look and feel) but much of the content is the same stuff you created when you were the Slacker Manager.

I used it for an interview. I didn’t get the job but then no one got the job (the position was frozen). The feedback I recieved from the interview chairwoman (from the interview board) was supprised whe I brought it out. She said that in all her years of conduction interviews she had NEVER seen anyone do this. She stated that it showed some that I was serious about not just getting the job but DOING the job. Well worth the effort!
The only thing that I would add is to research the company the best you can and add that to the mix to make it more relevent.
Scott,
Good feedback on a very valuable too.
David
I wrote, over in The Art of Leading, two articles that I believe are useful for those who are faced with the challenge of the first 100 days in a position. Take a look if you’re interested:
