The Fool’s Smartest Stock Moves

I peruse investment web sites, blogs and newsletters to compile opinions about certain stocks. This afternoon, I came across “This Week’s 5 Smartest Stock Moves,” and thought it would be a nice list to evaluate at the end of this week.
Unfortunately, the list isn’t giving tips on what to do in the coming week. It is really about what some stocks did in the past week. The term “this week” threw me off initially, but the article was written yesterday.
Anyway, I would still like to see if the positive momentum continues so I am going to check up on these stocks next Saturday. Here are the stocks along with the good news (according to the Motley Fool) and performance from the week:
Toll Brothers (Ticker: TOL) – The homebuilder reported third quarter financials which weren’t that great, but may have shown that the housing market has finally bottomed out. The stock was up 3.67 percent for the week.
Cisco (Ticker: CSCO) – Cisco is launching its EOS social networking sites around artists on the Warner Music Group’s label. The stock was down 3.97 percent on the week.
Sirius (Ticker: SIRI) – The struggling satellite radio company managed to issue $257 million worth of secured debt at 9.75 percent last week. It paid as much as 15 percent just six months ago. The stock gained 16.3 percent last week.
Yahoo! (Ticker: YHOO) – Yahoo! purchased the OMG.com domain name. Catchy domain names are often bought by people who have no use for the name, but want to profit from selling the name to someone else who wants it later. The stock rose 2.87 percent last week.
Target (Ticker: TGT) – Target is dropping Amazon.com as its e-commerce servicer. The deal doesn’t end until 2011, but Target will then assume responsibility for its own virtual checkout, warehousing and shipping. The stock fell 2.1 percent.
The results for the past week are mixed, but I am going to keep an eye on them and report back next week. We’ll see if this week’s smartest moves are still smart at the end of next week!
