The Importance of a Writing Routine

ideabulb.jpgI don’t know about you, but my writing benefits from a routine. It’s tricky, because my writing also benefits from taking time off.

I’m thinking about this today because I’ve mostly taken the last few days off. Partly because of Christmas – major holidays are always a good excuse, and partly because I simply felt the need. As it happened, my work for clients eased up a bit and allowed me to coast some. I’m not supposed to coast on this blog, but I did. And yes, I’m refreshed, rested and feel ready to go.

Ah, but I took enough time off to break up my routine! So I’m chuckling a bit at myself as I ease back into it. Fortunately, I do keep a calendar and it includes the things that qualify as my writing routine… so I can’t use the excuse that I’ve forgotten.

Hope your holiday was at least as good as mine.

Write well and often,
