The Mental Game of Tennis

I know it’s been said over and over, this whole mental aspect of tennis. The mental aspect of sport really: it’s not confined to just tennis. But since this is a tennis blog, we’re darn well going to talk about tennis.

When it comes to confidence, I think Novak Djokovic is just brimming with it. And it’s not just confidence – I think the man exudes that extra special breed of confidence known as arrogance. I’m not so keen on such a thing, but let’s talk about it anyway.

We’ve all watched Roger Federer falter a bit after his four years of dominance on the ATP tour, and the players are very much aware of this stumbling. Djokovic went public with his confidence and ability to beat Roger and the number of other young players on tour who had the ability and growing confidence to do such a feat. Actually, Djokovic has already notched that mark on his racket – the win over the King. Can he do it again?

I’m not sure…all I do know is that Djokovic is going to have to stand in line, because I think Rafael Nadal has a much better chance of wiping out Roger than Djokovic. If I was placing money…well…it wouldn’t be on the Serb.
