The NCAA Bottom of the Barrel

ESPN has released their list of the bottom 10 football teams…and they’re no real surprises here. I’m happy to say that Duke is (for once) not on the list, but some of the other teams they’ve ranked are not strangers to the bottom. Starting with the worst, here’s ESPN’s list:

1. Washington (0-11)
2. SMU (1-10)
3. North Texas (1-10)
4. Western Kentucky (2-9)
5. Notre Dame (6-5)
6. Iowa State (2-10)
7. Tulane (2-9)
8. Eastern Michigan (2-9)
9. Miami-OH (2-9)
10. Michigan (3-9)

On the cusp: Idaho, Indiana, Kent State, New Mexico State, UAB, Utah State

See anything strange with this list. Yep, Notre Dame is on it. Now, I’m not an Irish/Weis/Clausen fan, but to list them as one of the worst teams in the BCS seems a little ridiculous to me. They have a winning record, for pete’s sake. All of the teams on the cusp are more deserving of a spot on this list than Notre Dame. I’m not saying they are a good team…but fifth worst overall? Come on.
