The O(my)-Zone: Spiderman, Astro Boy, and Mullets

Is it just me or has there been some really weird green business news lately? Every week, I’ll be bringing you The O(my)-Zone – weird environmental news from around the web. Oh. My. Got a weird, green tip for me? Email me your link!

Today’s Top Stories:

French Spiderman Wants you to Go Green

Alain Roberts, otherwise known at “French Spiderman” was charged with criminal trespass, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and posting graffiti last week after he climbed up the 52-story New York Times building to hang a banner that read “Global warming kills more people than 9/11 every week.” He also wore a t-shirt advertising his website, which talked about the “peaceful” climb. Says Roberts, “Emissions are still climbing. So am I.”

Roberts scaled the building without any ropes, harnesses, or parachutes. Workers inside watched him climb and he was arrested at the top. I’m all for raising awareness, but this seems a little ridiculous. I guess he did get a press conference…

Astro Boy Loves Recycling

In Japan, apparently “Astro Boy” is the father of manga – Japanese comics. This week, the comic book character got a make-over to promote recycling. Volunteers from the Tokyo area created a huge 10 foot by 7 foot mural out of used metro tickets. It’s like a giant pixilated Japanese Mickey Mouse. Sweet. The mural is displayed in the metro to remind users to recycle.

Mullets are Cool?

Ok, this isn’t news, and it has nothing to do with business, but it is just so darn weird that I have to post it for you. “Mullets are cool.” Ok?
