The Pittsburgh Pirates and College Basketball Do Not Mix

This is one of those rare moments where two of my favorite pasttimes meet – Major League Baseball and college basketball.
But unfortunately for the wrong reasons.
West Virginia University basketball players Joe Mazzulla and Cameron Thoroughman were busted at PNC Park at a Pittsburgh Pirates game for underage drinking and for fighting on Monday according to The Associated Press and ESPN.com.
It’s one thing to be busted for underage drinking. I guess a lot of people do it. But fighting too?
The two lunk heads argued with police when they refused to show proper identification and smelled of alcohol, according to the criminal report. Thoroughman, a 20-year-old, 6-foot-7 sophomore allegedly lied about his age and threatened a security guard. He also struggled with an officer who was trying to take him into custody.
Mazzulla, a 6-foot-2 junior was also charged with aggravated assault when he tried to grab his teammate and allegedly punched a police sergent.
Come on guys! I know it was a Pirates game and you were probably looking for something to get you through those nine innings of hell, but did you have to go to extremes that stupid and get yourselves arrested? Next time, how about taking in a WNBA game instead.
