The Punishment is Harsh
Ricky Williams has been suspended for 1 year
To say I am not surprised is an understatement. There is usually a penalty when you break rules, even if your name is Ricky, and even if you have a seriously cool beard.
It’s not very common for someone to get mistakenly tested positive in a drug test as Ricky Williams was. His appeal was on pretty shaky grounds, so it’s really not all that surprising. He made a small contribution to the Dolphins last year, and Nick Saban is surely just starting to wonder what he was thinking bringing in a known doper who randomly walked out of football.
Oh well, it’s over now, and Williams will likely never again get a chance with an NFL football team.
To bad. I think he had the potential to be one of the great running backs.
There’s no doubt. He had a tremendous year in 2003. You’d watch him some plays and you could swear it was not possible to tackle him. defenders would just bounce off.
Sadly, it’s not uncommon for great talents to waste their gifts like he has…
Definately. Too many years of hearing nothing but, “You’re the greatest!” and “Yes, sir, whatever you want.” So man of the one’s you last had someone kick their ass early on: a parent, a coach, an older sibling, and injury. Something to bring the back to earth and give them some perspective.
and then on the other hand you have just the opposite- people that were poor, that never got what they wanted, and that were harshly treated. They’re basically sticking a giant middle finger at the world and making a point of doing as they please
So it appears that the real problem is people. :)
you can hardly say it’s not the athelete’s fault, I’m just trying to figure out the brain that makes people do such boneheaded stuff
Not saying the athelete isn’t responsible. Rather boneheaded behaviour is really more of the norm for all people. We ought to be surprised when people do something noble and right, not when they screw up.
