The Reason I Watched The ESPYs

I watched the ESPYs for the first time last night. And I admit that I only watched them for one specific reason … Justin Timberlake was the host.

I love me some Justin, and not just because he’s incredibly hot or the fact that he could melt me into a pile of butter with one soft, musical note either. He seems like just a likable guy, the kind of guy you’d want to be friends with. I don’t know what it is, but everything Justin touches these days turns to gold. So, I wanted to tune in and see how he did hosting the ESPY Awards. I was only going to watch for a few minutes, after he finished his opening bit. A couple hours later, the ESPYs were over and I was left scratching my head and wondering how on earth I got sucked in.

The awards were fun to watch because we had such a great year in sports. I love watching clips and highlights, but I think what made the show so successful was how well Justin hosted. He nailed it. And I’m sure a lot of people who don’t normally watch the ESPY’s tuned in to see what was going on because of Justin. He’s the only pop superstar I know who most guys respect rather than hate on.

Here’s a quick recap of what went down:

Tiger Woods won three ESPYs, including Male Athlete of the Year. (His fifth time winning this award). He wasn’t on hand to accept the award, but Will Farrell did a little thank you speech on his behalf.

The New York Football Giants took home three ESPYs for Best Game, Best Upset and Best Play. When Eli Manning (why does he look like he’s only 12 years old??) was up on stage accepting the Best Play award, he thanked his offensive line for not blocking for him during the play and David Tyree’s helmet.

Candace Parker won two ESPYs for Female Athlete of the Year and Female College Athlete honors. I have to say, Candace looked strange in a dress. Her big guns were bulging at the sides … she’s ripped!

Brett Favre was given an ESPY for Best Record Breaking Performance because he broke Dan Marino’s record for most touchdown passes in a career. When he went up to accept the award after the video clip was shown, he smiled and said, “Watchin’ that makes me want to play again.”

For those of you who missed the show, here’s a clip of Justin’s opening bit. It was pretty funny.
