The Search for Bourne

Update: Looking for clues? Here’s a few sites.

It’s time to start the Search for Bourne, the new Treasure Hunt game from Google and Universal. And so far I’m not impressed.

  • You have to use your Google account to sign in and they send your information to Universal Pictures
  • Everytime you logon to the site, they appear to send your logon information in an un-encrypted form. It does not take into account the fact that I’m already logged on, via cookies or something, even when I click through from my personalised Google page and the widget they give you to track the game.
  • The flash for the game is broken. Click on the register button and the whole page freezes, not allowing you to click anything else. You get these additional words on the page but can;t do anything, even click the footer links to complain without reloading the whole thing.
  • On completing the mission successfully, it is supposed to unlock a camera view- you get points for spotting Bourne in locations. The mission itself was pretty easy, my answer got confirmed as being correct, but no camera unlocked and no archive to the mission

Send a complaint to them. I have – let’s see if they respond.

  3. Palm says:

No technical problems for me. The only problem I had was myself – figuring out how/where to submit things but once I got that figured out was able to complete 3 days and am all caught up.

Hi Palm – I saw that you have just posted on unfiction as well. As you started today, it looks like you lucked out. they have definitely improved it over the last few days and almost all of the stuff that was wrong has been corrected. I tried it on 3 browser apps across 2 OS’s and there were the same issues on each.

I think I was just disappointed that testing had not caught the stuff and the customers were doing it for them. Especially as I’ve since found out it is Big Spaceship behind the build – they normally do great work. My guess is that this was the result of late briefing and little time to complete. Web stuff is often far later in the process as it is often thought as ‘easy’; that’s been my experience with some clients who then get upset when it does not work.
