The solution for the business traveller

Having noted that laptops are increasingly becoming dumb terminals, I’ll now present to you an argument that I will be presenting to my wife and business partner shortly. First, a caveat – I’m an Apple head, and have been Jones-ing inexplicably for a MacBook Air since they came out. Now I think I have my excuse.

The dish on the MacBook Air is that they are overpriced and under equipped for the serious business traveller. But … what about the business traveller who is doing his or her best to limit the amount of data on a laptop which could be lost, broken, or stuck indefinitely in customs? Who have, consistent with my last post, moved most of their data to an off-computer location which is accessible via internet? For those people, the MacBook Air should be perfect. It’s light, it’s built to work with the internet, and provides a full-sized workspace in the smallest space possible. It’s the perfect compliment to a stationary – and presumably safe – desktop computer which keeps the bulk of your important data safe and sound where it belongs, in the office or at home.

If you’re using the MacBook Air, let us know if I’m right. If you disagree (as I’m sure many do), tell us why. If you have a better way to persuade my wife, let me know that as well.

I had travel in mind when I picked up my Macbook Pro last month. I typed a bit on the Air, but have a hard time getting past a laptop that doesn’t have a close-to-regular-size keyboard. I can definitely see where the smaller laptop has its perks (hard to open a big screen when the seat in front of you is reclined the *whole* trip), but I like my choice. I do love those light-up keys, heh. ;)

I’m pretty sure the MacBook Air has the same full-size keyboard as the Pro, only in black (which not everyone likes). That and its thin, but has the same width and height as a MacBook, so the MB Air wouldn’t be any better on an airplane.
