The Ultimate Fighter 9 Episode 2 Recap

April 9, 2009 by Scott Wharton

This is just going to be a quick wrap up of the remaining fighters and a little bit of what went down last night. These tryout were after the Rich Franklin Vs. Dan Henderson fight, so obviously Dan Henderson was introduced as the Team USA Coach. Dana comes in starts talking to the 16 contestants, rattling off the “F” word every two seconds.

Welterweight contestant Jason Pierce passes out, probably due top hydration, cutting weight and probably had his knees locked. Dana comments some more about hoe the UK guys are ready to kick some ass and rattles off the “F” word about 40 more times. The weigh in and medical exams find that one fighter, Christian Fulgium , is over his weight by two pounds and only has 4o minutes to cut it. He can’t cut the weight so he’s gone. Lightweight John David Shackelford has a good, nickel sized “Herpes” lesion on his head that is contagious, so he’s out now too. Now Team USA has two fighters that don’t have opponents and Dana isn’t going to just let them in the house. He congratulates the fighters that made weight and fights begin the next day.

Welterweight Mark Miller defeated Kevin Knabjian by TKO punches at 1:59 of round 2.

  • Miller and Knabjian were friends and training partners before this fight.

Richie Whitson defeated Paul Bird with a rear-naked choke  3:10 of round 1.

  • Paul Bird talked a lot of trash before this fight, but couldn’t back it up.

Santino Defranco defeated.Waylon Lowe with rear naked choke in round 2, at 0:45

  • Santino Defranco tried getting on the show in Season two but he had a brain aneurysm and was disqualified. He had surgery and he’s back for season 9. Round 1 looked pretty bleak for Defranco as he was taken down to the ground and Lowe had him in a possition where he was not fighting back, just covering up, but Lowe wasn’t connecting with anything good enough for the ref to stop the fight. When the round was over it didn’t look like he was going to have round 2, but his coach told him he had it in him  and he went out there and pulled off the choke in 45 seconds.

Jason Pierce defeated Steve Berger by decision after a sudden victory roun.

  • They only showed bits and peices of this fight and it looked boring at every turn.

Cameron Dollar defeated Tom Hayden with a rear naked choke in round 2.

  • Again they only showed a litle bit of this fight.

Damarques Johnson def. Ray Elbe via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 3:10

  • Ray Elbe had a record of 20-11 going in to this fight and I thought he was going to do better, but Johnson picked him apart.

Dana congratulates the winners and announces that the two fighters that did not have opponenets will be fighting opponents they flew in that didn’t make the last cut. These two fights will air on next weeks episode. They are:

  • Kiel Reid Vs. Frank Lester
  • Jason Dent Vs. Rob Browning

Yes, Rob Browning is Junies younger brother but looks to be just as much of a douche. I guess we’ll wait and see what kind of drama unfolds in the house.
