The World Ends With You: Real Thoughts
The World Ends With You’s protagonist, Neku, can read thoughts. That’s his ’schtick,’ as they say.
It’s pretty interesting to run throughout Shibuya and peer into people’s minds. Some pedestrians think about love, others think about money (I totally relate to the guy who runs out of money and decides to live on grocery store samples) and still more think about fashion trends and celebrities.
I’ve noticed that these thoughts still tend to be pretty PG, probably for the sake of the game’s Teen rating. If The World Ends With You were more realistic, Neku wouldn’t find redemption through the deep thoughts of humanity: His foul moods would be vindicated, or perhaps he’d just become bloody terrified.
“Man, it’s hot. My asscheeks feel like they’re glued together.”
“It’s been about a week. I should feed mom. Maybe I should sweep out her cell, too.”
“Disco lives on in the hearts of the children.”
“I need to scratch my crotch pretty badly, but there are all these people around. …Then again, maybe there are so many people that no one would ever notice what I’m doing. How very zen.”
Poor Neku. “Open up…your senses…OH GOD, CLOSE THEM. CLOSE THEM UP AGAIN.”
