The Worst Loss In International Hockey History?

I saw this on ESPN and I had to comment on it. 
Bulgaria’s women’s ice hockey team lost in a Olympic pre-qualifying match to Slovakia 82 – 0.
That’s not a basketball score, folks. That’s a hockey score …
Bulgaria gave up 139 shots on goal. According to ESPN.com, Slovakia averaged one goal every 44 seconds. Bulgaria trailed 7-0 after 5 minutes, 19-0 after 10 and 31-0 at the end of the first period.
Ouch.
At what point do you pull the goalie in a game like this?

The sad thing here is this 83 – 0 loss is not the worst in history. Thailand holds that dubious distinction, they lost 92-0 to South Korea in the 1998 Asia-Oceania U18 Championship.

I wish there was video footage of this game. I would love to see it. It’s not entirely the womens fault I must say. I mean they have 3 ice rinks in a country with 7.4 million. How much practice do they really get? I am sure those ladies have some talent in the sport of hockey. My sons peewee team could give them a run for their money.

Yeah, the video is kinda brutal. At least those ladies held their heads high and played until the end without getting into too much penalty trouble. The last video shows some of the frustration rising to the surface and resulting in a misconduct and match penalty. I hope they get some more ice rinks built out there so they can practice a bit more, where they don’t have to drive across the country(literally) to play.
