The Worst Thing Manny Has Ever Said

July 29, 2008 by Lyndsey D'Arcangelo

Here’s my obligatory MLB post for the week.

With all the Manny Ramirez gossip going on, I’ve tried to stay out of it. It’s nothing new really. Manny has never been happy with the Red Sox. Manny will never be happy with the Red Sox. And I honestly think that Manny will never be happy no matter where he goes. He’s the kind of person who likes to have something to complain about. He’s the kind of sports premadonna that I don’t like to waste my time on.

I’ve read article after article about Manny and read ridiculous quote after ridiculous quote. Let’s face it, Manny has said some pretty dumb and outrageous things throughout his illustrious career. But when I saw this comment I think it was the first time I was ever appalled.

This, by far, is the worst thing Manny Ramirez has ever said. When responding to trade rumors by Red Sox management, Manny uttered this little ditty:

I can even play in Iraq if need be.”

Really? With everything going on over there, with the war and American soldiers dying, is that really an appropriate response? Did that really come out of your mouth without the slightest wince or hint of regret? Really?

At this point, I say send Manny to Guam a la “Good Morning Vietnam” style. Maybe he’ll like it better there.

That was such an awesome movie. In fact, here’s one of the best scenes courtesy of YouTube:
