Theo Ratliff Signs by the San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs continue to add pieces. The latest piece is 6-foot-10 and goes by the name of Theo Ratliff. The 36-year-old center gives the Spurs more bigman depth behind starters Tim Duncan and Antonio McDyess.

Although he has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, the 46 games he played last year with the Philadelphia 76ers were the most games he played since the 2005-06 season. For the season, he averaged 1.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 12.6 minutes per contest for the Sixers.

Ratliff’s biggest strength as a basketball player is his ability to block shots. For his career, he has 1,902 blocks. He has averaged 2.5 blocks per game for his career in 26.1 minutes per contest.

The best season of Ratliff’s career was in the 2000-01 season. Playing for the Sixers, Ratliff averaged 12.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks in 36 minutes per game.

While Ratliff won’t play much for the Spurs, he’ll get minutes when the Spurs need an additional shotblocker on the court.

Whether you think the Spurs are the most boring team in the NBA, or your a die hard fan, adding Theo Ratliff and Richard Jefferson makes the Spurs dangerous again.
