Between pictures and video promos, the hip hop superstar took some time to explain how he got hooked on hockey. “I grew up back in the days of the Omni, back when we had the Atlanta Flames,” he explained. “We used to go to the games at the Omni. We even went ice skating back in the day. That’s how I got into hockey in the A-T-L.”
Considering there was a 19-year gap between the departure of the Flames and the arrival of the Thrashers, Lil’ Jon can be forgiven for losing touch with NHL hockey for a while, but he’s a fan again. What brought him back to the game? His son. “I heard about the Thrashers coming to Atlanta, but I hadn’t been to a game yet until my son started playing hockey. I brought him to a Thrashers game to see what a real hockey game was like.”
