There should be no second chance
I’m a huge fan of football. I’m a huge fan of the players. Most of them are great guys. Most of them start charities or give back to the community in a major way.
Some of them are just jerks. Ray Lewis is one such player. Terrell Owens was another. Ricky Manning jr. now falls under the same category.
After getting an offer from the Bears the Panthers had the option to match it or let him get away.
I think they’re going to let him go, and be very happy about it.
I remember never having heard of him until watching the 2004 Super Bowl. He seemed like an idiot. I didn’t like him right off the bat.
Then along comes this story from ESPN. He and a couple of other loser beat up a dude in Denny’s. Why? Because he was using a laptop. They were giving him a hard time and calling him a geek.
The newspaper quoted Lewis saying the victim complained to a Denny’s manager. He was then punched in the face, then punched and kicked by multiple attackers until losing consciousness.
Manning, a former UCLA star, and his companions left the restaurant in an SUV and were pulled over by police soon after when the vehicle was spotted by a helicopter, Lopez said.
Police said Manning was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon despite not being armed because he was aided by companions, and because great bodily force was used.
Manning was released after posting $30,000 bail.
Manning’s deal with the Bears is worth up to $21 million over five years, according to his agent. The Panthers have until April 28 to match the Bears’ offer.
The guy deserves to have his career ended. NFL players are no more special than anyone else. They don’t need a second chance. A guy who does stuff like that isn’t going to turn into an angel overnight. Why not just throw him out of the league? Why would that be bad?
Just for kicks, some pictures of him getting burned after the jump:
