Things That Make You Say Hmmmm

arsenio-hall.jpgYou know I am dating myself, when I pull out a picture of Aresenio Hall. But I use to watch his show like everyone else in America and I loved his monologue. He always seemed to include things that make you say hmmmmm.

I think job seekers sit in interviews and when they get a question they are not sure how to answer, they say “hmmmmm”. Maybe not out loud, but they are pondering. So I thought given my blog name, Interview Chatter, what a great opportunity for us to chat about interview questions. Here’s the deal.. I will pose interview questions, and you as a job seeker, reader will share your answers. Simple! What a great opportunity to practice before going to your next Interview! Here is the first question..

How would you answer this question? What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness? Scroll down and leave a comment!

Hi Darlene, great questions. I visit forums where people discuss different things and there is often much angst about answering these questions “properly.” I don’t think it’s a matter of answering it properly, it’s a matter of answering it the way that is right for you.

In my case, if I’m asked my greatest strength, although the answer can depend on the job, my answer is usually that I’m persistent and will work to find a way to get a job completed, even if it isn’t working out as we had hoped it would.

As for my greatest weakness, I am honest and tell them that I have a hard time believing in myself sometimes. I know, deep down, that I can do many of the things I do, but I often feel that I’m about to be discovered as a fraud, that I’m not really supposed to be doing what I want to do.

I must be doing something right. Every job I’ve been qualified for and several that I haven’t, I’ve gotten.

  2. Hi Marijke, Thanks for stopping by and sharing your answer! You know most interviewers can tell when people are giving a “canned” answer versus when a candidate is being geniune. I believe that you have gotten your jobs, because of the latter. When you are real, people know it!

    Thanks for sharing! Anyone else?
