This Page Intentionally Left Blank

April 26, 2008 by Eric Eggertson

You see this all the time.

Apdf-icon page that is left blank for the print version of a publication (the reverse side of the table of contents, for example) is left as a blank page in the online PDF version.

This helps maintain consistent pagination between the two versions, but what a waste. Most people don’t have two-sided printing on their printers, so all those blank pages are churned out year-in, year-out for no purpose.

If you can find a way to avoid this environmental faux-pas, do it.

Might be a waste, but as a headline it sucked me right in.

    Good one, Eric.

Do “Close Cover Before Striking,” and I’ll probably get sucked right back in.

  2. Douglas Karr says:

Or just put the blank page back in your printer and re-use it.
