This Will Probably Piss Off Lance Briggs To No End

Adam Archuleta, you remember him right? He was the white safety for the Rams. No, not the one who became the surprisingly good wide receiver for the Lions. The one who became a wildly overpaid backup safety for the Redskins. Yeah, him. Well, he’s reunited with Lovie Smith, a coach who actually uses a defense that Archuleta would be effective in. (I’m looking at you Gregg Williams!) The Redskins got a 6th round pick as compensation. Just a reminder, they signed him last year to the highest paying contract ever for a safety. Now they got a 6th round draft pick.

This is actually a pretty good deal for both teams. Archuleta is a hard hitting cover two safety who isn’t very good at coverage, like Jon Lynch. (They’re both white, too!) The Redskins don’t run a cover two. They probably should have thought of that before they signed him, probably. Archuleta was just an especially stupid contract on a team of a lot of stupid contracts. The ‘Skins had to get rid of him. In Chicago, he has a chance to earn (at least part of) that money, because he’s a perfect fit for the Bears defense. Plus, you know, he’s making more money than Pro-Bowler Lance Briggs. Luckily, Briggs isn’t a complainer.
