This Wrestling/Boxing Blogger is Complaining About Comcast

As in me. Yes me! In this post I am going to complain about my Comcast service.

You see today’s New York Times contained an article about how Comcast responds to complaining bloggers via email or even in the post’s comment page. I’ve complained slightly about Comcast in a prior post but I guess I wasn’t clear enough in my keywords or my desperation.

So here goes:

Dear Comcast:
I have been a loyal Digital Cable/Internet subscriber for two+ years under the Comcast Harrisburg (Pa.) aegis. I have teetered back and forth over whether or not to switch to DirecTV, Dish TV, or the forthcoming Verizon FIOS. Since this is a wrestling and boxing blog I will only address the problems relative to my wrestling/boxing viewing.

1. None of the pay-per-views are available in high definition. What’s the deal with that? I don’t watch regular shows in standard definition; why would I pay $50 to watch something I wouldn’t watch in the first place?

2. The MyNetworkTV station is not broadcast in high definition. Truthfully, I don’t even know what MyNetworkTV is. I just know that pretty soon WWE SmackDown is moving from the CW to that channel. The WWE broadcasts everything in HD (so everything’s good on their end) but what will happen if I can’t see Eve Torres, Maria, and Michelle McCool in high def? Trouble I tell you. Trouble.

3. Why can’t I get Telemundo or Telefutura? Harrisburg may not boast a large Spanish speaking population but, heck, I speak Spanish and Telemundo and Telefutura both broadcast some of the best fight cards on television. I would love to see them.

4. Please show more live boxing on the Versus Channel. This blogger is no dummy. I know Comcast owns Versus so my complaint here is worthy. Again, it’s not really a complaint; it’s more of a suggestion. You guys did such a great job with the Ricky Hatton-Juan Lazcano fight a few weeks ago. And I heard you got the fight on the cheap. Please, Sir, can I have another?

5. Lately my reception for WWE events on both USA-HD and SciFi-HD has been really jumpy. Almost to the point where I can’t watch. OK, the part about not watching is I lie.

Anyway, if you do read this, thanks! If not, I am sorry everyone for my kvetching. I only did it for you Comcast.

I recently switched from optimum to verizon fios about 3 months ago. I’m a sports fan love to watch all my games and ppv fights in hd on my sony lcd tv. But this weekend the big boxing event of the year cotto and margarito fight was only broadcasted standard on verizon fios NOT HIGH DEF. WHY??? What happened fios who dropped the ball? Can anyone tell me if i this is common with fios and should I expect this for all upcoming ppv boxing events. I’m seriously considering highly on switching back to optimum. Any info is greatly appreciated and yes I do have of course high def boxes and high def tv.

Jay, I have no idea why Verizon FIOS wouldn’t broadcast PPVs in high def but then again I don’t understand why my local comcast doesn’t either.

You’ve definitely made me think twice about switching to FIOS.

I actually ended up going to my parent’s house to watch the fight since they have DirecTV. No problems there except the HD charge was $10 more than the standard def feed.

These cable companies really do seem to be dropping the ball on HD sporting events. Aren’t we at the point where HDTVs have saturated the market? Shouldn’t HD programming be the norm at this point? Especially for sports.
