Thornton Heads the US Athletics Men’s Team

bubbaIt has been said that Bubba Thornton will be taking on the position of Head Coach for the US Athletics Men’s Team for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Beijing 2008.

A name known in the field of Athletics. He is one of the highly respected coaches of the sport. A couple of his past appointments were heading the Team USA men’s track and field at the 2003 World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Paris, France and was assistant coach for Team USA at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

He is the Texas Longhorns Head Coach of the University of Texas Athletics. He has led them to nine top-10 NCAA finishes and five conference titles. Thornton has produced 28 of Texas’ 61 men’s indoor track and field All-Americans, 30 outdoor All-Americans and his athletes hold 13 of the 19 indoor school records and 9 of the 21 modern outdoor records.

Bubba Thornton is on his 11th season at the helm of the University of Texas men’s track and field program. After his squad contributed a school-best 124.5 points last season toward Texas’ second-place finish in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Cup, clearly enjoyed a productive 2004-05 campaign, they enter the new season.

Not bad for credentials, eh?
