Australian swimming star, Ian Thorpe (or the “Thorpedo” as I continue to call him) has started legal proceedings in a case alleging that a French newspaper and journalist are guilty of defamation of character.  L’Equipe published a story back in March of 2007 stating that the five-time Olympic champion had tested positive for “abnormal levels of testosterone” in 2006 but that the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) could do nothing about it due to a lack of evidence.  Last August, the ASADA and Fina cleared the swimmer of any wrongdoing.

According to his lawyer, Thorpe has not decided whether he wants to proceed with the lawsuit but has started the process.
