Timberlake in “The Open Road” Trailer

Justin Timberlake stars opposite Jeff Bridges in The Open Road which opens in theatres on August 28, 2009.  In the film, Timberlake is Carlton, the estranged son of baseball legend, Kyle (Bridges). 

After years of not speaking to each other, Kyle is surprised to see Carlton who comes bearing bad news – his mother, Katherine (Mary Steenburgen) is having heart surgery and wants to see her husband before she goes under the knife (I’m not sure if they are divorced).  Carlton is surprised when his father agrees to fly out to see Katherine.  Their plans get derailed, however, when they get ready to board their flight and Kyle realizes he has lost his wallet.

Carlton is ready to give up on the situation when his girlfriend, Lucy (Kata Mara), suggests they rent a car and drive home.  Of course, along the way, father and son get to know each other better and I’m guessing this is going to be one of those relationship-healing, feel-good type of movies which isn’t a bad thing as long as it’s done properly.

I think that Timberlake and Bridges have decent enough chemistry from what I’ve seen in the trailer and Mara is coming dangerously close to being typecast as the noble girl-next-door (although, her upcoming turn in Iron Man 2 might change that).
