Finding your voice, finding your own writing style is key to the internet. Why? Well the way to engage. the way to stand out is to show who you are, to show your personality. There is a wonderful phrase ‘Be you because everyone else is taken‘
Being you sounds easy when in reality it can be difficult when you first start out…because you are conscious that you are writing for a global audience. So what tips would I give for writing on the web
The best tip I can give for anyone is start writing in an invisible way. I started a blog that was not called anything to do with my business or me…that allowed me to find my writing feet…or should that be hands! It is an old adage but so true that practice makes perfect.
The next tip is to write as though you are speaking with your best friend, that will give it a conversational tone and also show your personality. Another way of looking at that for a more corporate style is write for an intelligent 14 year old….that is an old newspaper trick..
The next tip is to subscribe to other people and learn from their writing style – what do you like? what lessons can you learn from reading others?
People who succeed on the web, use the web to express their personality…..don’t be afraid to let that personality out…because in the end that will be your differentiating factor…that will be your personal brand!
